Liturgical Ministries

Altar Servers assist at the Lord’s table during Sundays, Holy Days, funerals, wedding liturgies, and Masses with Sacred Heart Parish School. This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and learn more about the Mass.  It is open to adults who are active parishioners and to youth in at least the fourth grade who have received their First Communion.  Training will be provided, and a dress code must be followed.

Altar Server Requirements:

• Must be in the 4th Grade or older
• Need to know the prayers of the Mass and have received their First Communion
• Need to have the support of their parents or guardians (for altar servers under 18)

This dedicated group supports the liturgy and invites individuals with to assist in decorating and creating an inviting atmosphere for meaningful worship. Members collaborate to plan and enhance our liturgical and worship spaces. The time commitment varies depending on the project.

Extraordinary Ministers (EME) assist, with reverence and dignity, in the distribution of the Eucharist at Mass.  Being an active participant in the liturgical life of the parish is required. Training session required.

Sacred Heart is seeking volunteers to join our Hospitality Ministry! We would like to form a large team of people to help plan and execute hospitality for various events throughout the year.  These events range from Saturday Night Wine and Cheese, Coffee & Donuts —to occasional larger events, such as our Fall Festival —and everything in between, such as Feast Days, Confirmation and First Communion celebration receptions.

We know our parishioners love and appreciate these opportunities, but we need help to make it happen!  If you enjoy helping provide opportunities for parishioners to build relationships with one another, we would love to have you join our team.

Ministers of the Word, also known as Lectors, proclaim God’s living Word during Sunday services and special liturgies, typically serving once a month or at daily Mass once a week. Lectors also lead the Prayers of the Faithful. This ministry is open to active, confirmed parishioners, and requires participation in tryouts and training.

Lectors boldly proclaim the Word of God at Sunday and Holy Day liturgies. A lector workbook is provided to help prepare for upcoming Scripture readings. The ministry aims to schedule lectors for one Mass each month, based on their preferred time.

Sacred Heart is blessed with an array of music and choirs:

CHOIR
Our choirs grace the Sunday Masses (9 AM and 11 AM) as well as other special liturgies including Holy Week and Christmas Masses.  Rehearsals are held in the church sanctuary, on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm.

PRAISE BAND
A lively band performs at the Sunday 5 PM Mass, offering a captivating blend of contemporary and praise music. Are you ready to be a part of this joyful celebration?

INSTRUMENTALISTS
If you are an intermediate to professional level instrumentalist of any age that is interested in participating in the music ministry here at Sacred Heart, please contact Susan Olmos.

CHRISTMAS CHILDRENS CHOIR 
Join us for a magical experience in our youth choir, which gathers around Christmas time. This choir is designed to nurture prayer, musicality, and a deeper appreciation of the Church’s rich musical heritage. The anticipated start date for this inspiring journey is the first week of November.

Together, let us create beautiful music that echoes the joy of our faith!

Sacristans ensure all preparations for Mass are complete and that albs, linens, candlesticks, etc. are clean and ready. A Sacristan has a love of the liturgy, an eye for detail, and good people skills. About two hours are needed for preparation before and cleanup after Mass.   Sacristans work behind the scenes to support Mass including preparing the bread and wine and all items needed to celebrate Mass, supporting where needed including cueing altar servers and perhaps stepping in as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion as needed. 

Registered parishioners who have completed the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist)

Our ushers reflect the friendly, caring, and welcoming spirit of our community.  They greet and welcome everyone who enters, assist with ushering for Communion, and help parishioners find their seats.  Their duties also include responding to emergencies, opening windows, closing doors, assisting with the collection during Sunday offerings, distributing bulletins after Mass, and close the church after the last mass. The commitment is approximately 90 minutes each Sunday when scheduled.  This role is a great opportunity for families and those trying ministry for the first time.  Training is provided.
